In this convoluted psychological thriller from bestseller Kubica (When the Lights Go Out), physician Sadie Foust and her professor husband, Will, have inherited his sister Alice’s house, on an island off the coast of Maine, after Alice’s apparent suicide. They have also agreed to accept guardianship for Alice’s understandably troubled 16-year-old daughter, Imogen. Despite the tragedy, Sadie sees a chance for a new start with Will and their two boys, 14-year-old Otto and seven-year-old Tate. She would like to move past Will’s affair, as well as an alarming school incident with Otto and a mistake that forced her to resign from her former position in Chicago. However, Imogen’s increasingly threatening behavior causes tension among the family, and the murder of a neighbor’s new wife throws their lives into a tailspin when Sadie becomes a suspect. Red herrings litter the multiple narratives, adding too much weight to an already overloaded plot, and a soapy twist disappoints. Hopefully, this is a temporary slump for the talented Kubica. In The Other Mrs., Sadie has several problems. She left her dream job in a Chicago ER for a family practice on a rural island in Maine. Her husband’s sister died—perhaps by her own hand— leaving him a house, bank account, and her strange goth daughter Imogene to care for. Imogene just wants all these strangers to get out of her house. Sadie’s husband, Will, cheated on her in Chicago. Their son, Otto, has been bullied. Now a neighbor is dead and the police suspect the strangers in their midst. Can anything else bad possibly happen to Sadie? Take my word for it that much more will happen in this twisty domestic thriller. Just when you think you can see where the plot is heading, the book makes a sharp right-hand turn. The Other Mrs. is anything but predictable. If you like your thrillers solidly built on relationships but also fast-paced like a rollercoaster, you will enjoy this book. 4 stars! Thanks to Park Row, Harlequin, and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to #Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I was fully prepared to give this book 3 stars but the ending! Wow! Had to bump it up to 4 stars. The books starts off fairly disjointed with 3 different narrators and I was halfway through the book before the story really started to come together. Without giving away any spoilers, there were hints dropped throughout that stuck out in my mind but I couldn't quite put my finger on. When they finally came together, it was a huge AHA moment and I was thinking how could I not have seen that?! This book beautifully portrays mental illness in the beginning without outright providing a diagnosis. Overall, it is very well written and a great story in the end. I am always a fan of Mary Kubica.

5 out of 5 stars Thank you to NetGalley and Park Row for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review Chicago native Dr.Sadie Foust moves to a small Main island with her husband and two sons after his sister commits suicide and leaves him her house and her 16 year old daughter Imogene. Sadie is not thrilled with leaving Chicago but what can they do? Her son has been expelled from his school, she has had issues with work and her husband has recently had an affair. So they pack up and move. The problem is that the Main island is small and everyone seems to know everyone. It also doesn't help that Imogene seems very hostile towards Sadie no matter what she does. Things that go from bad to worse when the woman down the street is murdered and the police keep stopping by and asking Sadie questions. Determined to solve the murder herself before someone in the family gets blamed for out Sadie puts herself in danger. I think this the best Mary Kubica book that I have read. I loved that Kubica left Chicago for this novel. Don't get me wrong, I lived in Chicago for years and I loved it but it is nice to see Sadie as a fish out of water in a small coast town. While I did think that the main twist was obvious from the second chapter it doesn't hurt the book because Mary Kubica handled it in a delicate and thoughtful manner. I looked forward to picking this book up at the end of the night and I don't think I could give this a better recommendation than that!
